Get Started
A guide on how to get started on Project Freedom
Welcome!
Welcome to our server! Upon joining, you'll be greeted by several of our members. Be sure to say "Hi" and engage. We pride ourselves on having a tight-knit community that stays connected.
Where you are currently located in the server's spawn, a small floating island at 0,0. Directly ahead of you is the NPC to Randomly teleport across the map, or you can request to join someone's town directly.
The Essentials
Joining a Town
For most players, it is recommended that you join an existing town in order to not only get acclimated to the use of towny but also to the community in general. This is also recommended as making a town not only comes at an expensive price but the responsibility to maintain one is also a hefty job.
Try asking around in the server chat if there are any towns looking for new members and you can do /accept [townname]
to join a town that has invited you.
After joining a town, you can teleport to your town's spawn using the command /t spawn
. You may also be able to teleport to other towns but only a nation town, or an ally nation spawn using /n spawn
or /n spawn [nationname]
.
For information on creating a town, you are encouraged to read the towny portion of the PFDocs.
Claiming Land
Though Project Freedom is a server brimming with many opportunities, it is likely you will want your work to be protected from griefing or stealing while you are away. To counteract this, you will need to own a plot of land, either in someone else's town, or your own.
To own your own land you will need to claim a plot, which are 16x16 blocks of land (otherwise referred to as chunks, which are viewed with F3 +G
keybind) that can be rented out to other players.
In a town, a mayor or town assistant can refer you to a plot that you can claim and have access to. Ask them if there is a plot available. Be aware of your town's codes though, they may require you to occupy a pre-built building instead of empty land.
Once you find a plot, stand in it and use the command /plot claim
. Be careful though, plots can be sold for money and may not be properly free.
Earning Money
Gold ingots are what backs the server's economy. You may have already noticed that many things require money to do. In order to make your own town, you need money. You need money to pay a daily upkeep for your town. You may need money to rent out a plot, or to purchase something from someone's store.
Traditionally, gold ingots are obtained through mining. Our server, despite having a custom map, has a fully vanilla underground attached to it, meaning that gold traditionally spawns most frequently around y level -16 to -20 with reduced air exposure. In case you are unaware, the f3
screen can show you your y-level in the top-left portion.
However, gold can be earned through other means. Currently, there are 3 main ways to earn gold beside directly mining: Voting, Envoys, and Player Shops.
Voting
Voting is an essential part of the server that you are encouraged to keep up with every day. Voting helps our server by promoting it on server lists, which boosts it and increases the likelihood of us gaining new players. To vote for the server, type /vote
and click on the links it provides.
To reward you for your time voting, you can earn free gold. After voting (up to 6 times per day), you will be granted up to 6 vote crates. Vote crates are not guaranteed to give gold but will generally give you a good amount to start with, and potentially some other rare items such as wither skulls.
Additionally, once 30 total votes are accumulated, the server will start a vote party, in which it will spawn an additional envoy event.
Envoys
Envoys are hourly events in which 1-5 crates randomly drop throughout the world. The crate's coordinates will be listed in the chat when the event starts, meaning everyone knows where they are. Generally, you have until 30 minutes to find and open the crate before it despawns.
You are encouraged to prepare to fight over a crate in the case that multiple people go for it. Crates have 3 levels of quality: common, rare, and legendary. The common crate tends to give fairly basic rewards, equivalent to about that of a standard vote crate. However, the rare and legendary crates can give immense rewards, up to stacks of golden blocks, or other rare items.
Player Shops
Player shops come in the form of chest shops that can be created by anyone, anywhere. They cost nothing to make, and exchange an item for gold, or vice versa. If you own a plot in a town, this is a great method to get rid of some spare materials in exchange for gold. You can see more about how to set up chest shops over at the Economics page.
